The best way to understand someone is to truly listen to them. Not in relation to our needs, but rather in relation to what they want and need.
It sounds obvious, but how many times have you told someone about a problem only for them to start talking about themselves?
Yeah, me too. And it doesn’t feel great.
It’s the same principle with clients. When you’re working with them to solve a problem, keeping the focus on them while actively listening can move everything forward. Sometimes it’s as simple as repeating what they’ve said and clarifying what you don’t fully understand.
All humans want to be understood. And until we truly understand, not much can happen.
