Why I Stopped Following Up With That One Buyer (And What Happened Next)

A few years ago, I worked with buyers who were ready… until they weren’t.
We saw places. Nothing felt right. They got frustrated, paused their search, and ended up renting from a friend.
We left it open-ended: “If you decide to re-enter the market, let me know.”

I didn’t check in monthly. I didn’t push. I just kept them on my newsletter, sent them a holiday card, and let time do its thing.

Three years later, they came back.
This time, ready.
This time, confident.

They already trusted me, and because I hadn’t over-pursued, they knew I’d be patient again if they needed it.

The lesson?
Not every follow-up has to be formal.
Not every buyer needs a chase.
Sometimes the best move is to step back and leave the door open.
