The Client Who Hired Me Off a Street Corner (No, Really)
I was rushing to a walkthrough one winter, stuck on the phone with a client who never listened.
He was overpricing (again). Arguing (again).
I’m calmly trying to explain why his pricing strategy is a disaster when he cuts me off:
"Why is it so loud where you are?"
Um… It’s New York City.
I stopped walking. I’m annoyed. But I’m also honest with this guy. Always. He frustrates me, but I genuinely like him.
Right in the middle of that conversation, a stranger walks over and hands me his card.
"Call me," he says.
So I do.
A few hours later, he hires me.
No pitch. No salesy energy. Just overheard my no-nonsense style on the street and liked it.
I didn’t close him.
He closed himself.
Because here’s the thing:
Great deals don’t always come from pushing harder.
They come from showing up and doing the work.
When you stop chasing and start focusing on being excellent, business has a way of finding you.
Top salespeople don’t run after every deal.
They create conditions where the right deals run toward them.
Have you ever had business find you out of nowhere?
I’d love to hear about it.
